On their debut set of recordings, St. Louis’ latest power trio Holofoil presents seven shiny new songs that weave seamlessly between heavy-hitting indie rock and sardonic, melodic post-punk. When Curtis Tinsley of Moonrace was ready to write a set of catchy finger-picked guitar parts paired with lyric-driven compositions, he called on his longtime friends in Clone Stamp (fka Complainer) to sculpt a lush, hyperactive rhythm section. In addition to co-writing tracks, Mabel Suen conjures a duality of sweet vocal harmonies and searing bass riffs. Joe Hess on drums slaps his own brand of polyrhythmic post-punk onto each song, lending a sense of sonic density to the sound. The self-titled release offers jangly groove-based tunes chock full of ear worms to vibe out to.
